Agronomy Vehicle Pool Core

Overview of Services

The Agronomy Vehicle Pool was created to facilitate access to vehicles required for the faculty and staff of the Agronomy Department. Many of the vehicles are trucks with engine and gearing capabilities to pull trailers loaded with agricultural machinery such as tractors, plot planters, combines, etc. to various sites across the state of Indiana. These trucks are often equipped with bed toppers to protect and secure tools, supplies,  seed,  and samples. Specialized vehicles include a truck mounted soil probe, and a semi/tractor trailer. The vehicles need to be available to Agronomy staff upon demand during planting or harvest seasons, or when research protocols require. These vehicles are owned and operated by the Agronomy Department and may be used by a cooperating department or other related Purdue personnel. The charges for using these vehicles are based on a mileage fee and a monthly depreciation fee. From these fees all vehicle costs are paid and funds are accumulated to replace vehicles as needed. Request for Rate Approvals are submitted as needed when cost increases warrent. The earliest Request for Rate Approval that I can find is dated May 15, 1977.  Terry D. West, Agronomy Vehicle Pool Chairperson, 12/15/2016 - 08/31/2019.
