Overview of Services
In cancer biology, mouse models play a crucial role in studying tumor invasion, metastasis, malignant transformation, and therapy responses. Key advancements in animal models for cancer biology include orthotopic models for metastasis, transgenic animals with developmental pathways to tumorigenesis, and state-of-the-art immunocompromised strains. Transplanted human xenografts remain a primary tool for molecular discovery and evaluation. Despite their limitations, xenograft mouse models have significantly contributed to cancer drug development over the past three decades and will continue to be foundational in the fight against cancer.
At the Purdue Center for Cancer Research (PCCR), a vast pipeline of potential new agents for diagnosing and treating cancer has emerged. Researchers need a productive and established facility for in vivo testing that can navigate the complexities of murine cancer models.
The mission of the Biological Evaluation Shared Resource (BE-SR) is to provide expert guidance to investigators in grant preparation, in vivo mouse model selection, and experimental design in the evaluation of potential therapeutic agent.
If you are new to this core or need to discuss an experiment, please contact Bennett Elzey, Ph.D., Shared Resources Director, at belzey@purdue.edu.
